I am a beginner: where should I start? We would recommend that you start with a one to one session, especially if you have been referred to Pilates for medical treatment. From there you could sign up for a 5x5 group to gain a thorough grounding in Pilates techniques. After 5x5's you will be equipped to choose whichever classes interest you out of our wide range, which you would book into by buying a 10 week block either through this website or by contacting Tanya directly. |
What can I expect to happen during the class? The instructor will demonstrate the exercise and talk you into position. She will then observe you and correct alignment where necessary. Each exercise will be demonstrated from beginners level upwards. |
What if I can't do a specific exercise? All positions can be modified to accommodate issues whether spinal or limb joint, just communicate your difficulty to your instructor. |
How big are the classes?Matwork and Swiss Ball classes in the main studio are limited to 15 participants. If a class exceeds this number then an assistant will be present and then a second teacher. Reformer classes in the reformer studio are limited to 8 participants only. |
What should I wear?A very frequently asked question! Wear something that you are comfortable in and that allows for free movement. We would recommend jogging bottoms or combat trousers; a t-shirt, sweat shirt or jumper. Wear layers that can be removed as your body warms up. Bare feet or socks are appropriate for most classes although trainers are also acceptable for Swiss Ball classes. |
What happens if I miss a class? After buying your 10 week block you have the privilege of picking up another class from any on the timetable to make up your number. So, for example, if you have an appointment on Tuesday 11-12, you could swap for the Wednesday 10-11 class. The only rule is that you must take your make up classes within the 10 weeks you are booked for. |

Should I attend class if I have back pain?YES! is the general answer. As long as a physiotherapist or other health professional has said that Pilates exercise will help then you can and should still continue with Pilates. The Pilates exercises can be therapeutic in alleviating the pain and often cause it to clear up. All the instructors at Posture Fitness are trained with physiotherapists so they can safely prescribe the right exercise to help with your issue. Obviously if the pain continues it would be advisable to consult a physiotherapist for further advice. The team at Posture Fitness can recommend physiotherapists to you if necessary. |
